Cherish and Cheer Your Children June 28, 2009

June2009 131Let’s face it!  Childhood is the funnest time of life!  Children are carefree!  They have no worries of finances, no major responsibilities, no job pressures, and quite honestly, that’s how it should be!  When was the last time you heard a child complain about a dwindling retirement account?  Or talk about rising food and gas prices?  Or wonder how they are going to pay for a car repair?  It’s silly to think our kids would worry themselves over these things, and as parents, we could learn a lesson from them.  Just as our children trust us to completely take care of them, we need to trust our God  to provide for all of our needs.  Matthew 6:32-33 says, “For your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.”

Cherish your children!   Spend time with them!  When you spend time with your children, you can act like a kid again!  Make memories with them.  Here are some things my husband and I  love to do with our three children:  indoor picnics, Family Night (where we watch a  family- friendly movie and eat in front of the television…a real treat!), going to the water park or pool, reading books, playing board games, putting together puzzles, cooking, Story time at the library, day trips to fun and educational places (zoos, plantations, museums),  and volunteering at a food pantry.

Cheer your children!  Encourage them, show them compassion (even when drama is involved), and love them!  The best way you can love your children is to love your husband!  Children are most secure and stable if they know that mom and dad love each other.

My oldest child turned nine in April.  I sadly commented to my husband on her birthday that half of her time in our home is already gone!  What precious and fleeting days these are!  We need to let our children be children!  Don’t rush them to grow up because it will happen all too soon!  Cherish them and cheer them!  Make their childhood happy and carefree as it should be!  However, be sure not to neglect godly discipline and correction!  Our children have only one childhood and we, as their parents,  need to make it count!

What are some things your family likes to do together?  Leave a comment.  I look forward to reading your ideas because moms can learn a lot from each other!
